Image
Three Summer Interns Arshya Anand, Vasu Agarwal & Somesh Tewatia from UPES Dehradun have come to visit Koshish Aur Pukkar office and the ground level work that Koshish Aur Pukkar is doing for underprivileged children at Gurgaon for a successful NGO Internship. They will be with us for June & July, 2025. I met them in Koshish Aur Pukkar Office on 2nd June, 2025. Mr. K.K.Singh and I met them and we gave a brief introduction of Koshish Aur Pukkar activities. Later on 9th June, 2025 the interns along with Ms. Kajal Rawat, KKSA Legal Associate visited my residence when I showed the activities of Koshish Aur Pukkar on my laptop explaining how the Gurgaon Chapter of Koshish Aur Pukkar came up several years back and how we brought up four underprivileged children from their early childhood to their present status at the end of their school life.  We then visited Jyestha Primary School operating on the footpath opposite Jal Vayu Towers where these four children used to study about 8...

A Godsend benefactor for Rahul!

I had just sent in an update to all the supporters of Koshish Aur Pukkar (Cradle of Care) and got a call from Mr. Karthik Kuppusamy. He had been donating earlier in Koshish Aur Pukkar "Children Education Fund". He wrote,"Dear Uncle, I am happy to foot his college fees of Rs. 1 Lakh/year. Rgds, Karthik".  This was an unexpected fantastic news. When I paid the initial Rs. 10,000/- registration fees to confirm Rahul's seat, I was constantly worried about the reactions to our forthcoming application for a bank loan for Rahul. This is because he cannot produce any collateral documents as he is staying in a jhuggi.  This has been a great relief. It's very kind of Karthik to promise such a help. He has totally assured Rahul's future.  Later on, I had requested Karthik to meet Rahul at my residence. I told Rahul, "Your finance has not come from a bank, but from God through the hands of Mr. Karthik Kuppusamy. You have to also pay back this loan, once you get...

Koshish Aur Pukkar Office

Today I am taking Sameer and the three girls to Mr. K.K.Singh's office.  I have already decided to tell Sameer that you didn't get a Bank's loan, but received a God's loan to pay back when you are ready. You should donate high amounts on a regular monthly basis to Koshish Aur Pukkar account which will support other underprivileged children. I will make him promise this today. Sharing a photo at Mr. K.K.Singh's office. The four children with Mrs. Sangeeta Singh (wife of Mr. K.K.Singh) who runs Koshish Aur Pukkar's Bihar branch in the centre with K.K.Singh's daughter (left). Came back home just now. We had a good meeting. The children were taken around the office to see how an office works. Mr. Singh's wife, Sangeeta Singh who runs Koshish Aur Pukkar in Bihar and has established a big school, does social work and women empowerment etc. and his daughter who is a doctor were also present and asked them about their career goals and asked them to study hard. ...

After a lot of research on the possible options for Rahul to continue his education journey, we have finally admitted him to St. Andrews Institute of Technology and Management for B.Tech in Computer Science and Technology (CST). I went with him to see the campus, and the hostel facilities.   Sharing a picture of us infront of the campus.    After detailed discussions, they offered scholarships based on OBC certificate . Also hostel facility obtained. Bus facility is also there but charges are Rs. 45000/- per year. Whereas we got as follows: 4 year course. 1) Institute charges : Rs.58,000.00 per year. ( Normal fees Rs.1,05,000.00 per year.)   2) Hostel (4 seater Non AC)  with breakfast, lunch, snacks & dinner ; Rs. 42,000.00 per year. Total : Rs. 1.00 lac per year. Rahul's Class X Results

Image
Dear Friends ,  I am so happy today. Rahul's (one out of four underprivileged kids whom we are supporting) CBSE Class X board exam results have been announced today. He has done so well.  Except maths (which surprisingly he got unexpected low marks), in all other four subjects he got between 92 to 95% marks. Surprisingly in their school the whole batch got very low marks in maths. I don't know the reason. Please go through his marks in the attached marksheet. He has really done well. You will also get surprised to know his strength of character. Their jhuggies were broken and demolished two times before by police and HUDA authorities as they build their jhuggies on un-authorized lands. They don't have full time electricity with power cut off every now and then. During his CBSE exams, his house again got demolished. I had offered him to stay in my house till his exams are over. He thanked me but politely refused. He didn't want to leave his family living in open and stay...

A message from Nirjala

Image
Dear Friends, Many of you are aware that I alongwith my wife Suchismita used to teach underprivileged children on the footpath next to the condominium where we live in Gurgaon. Four out of about 20 odd children took studies seriously and we put them to good private schools. Some of our friends and relatives regularly donated to a common fund in Maharashtra Bank, Gurgaon. Three girls are now in class X and one boy is in class XI of Tagore Public School, Gurgaon.  On 14th April I had a pleasant surprise to receive a Loooong message from Nirjala (Neha). She had poured her heart over the msg and sent such a sentimental note that tears came to my eyes. It is one of the most precious gift I ever got in my life. She along with the  other three live in jhuggies with their entire  Banajara community all of them except these four are totally illeterate. My daughter Yaggyaseni used to teach them English right from their childhood.  She must be justifyably proud of their E...

Inspiring other children at Govt. Model Sanskriti Primary School

Image
Dear friends,  I found during teaching the underprivileged children at Govt. Model Sanskriti Primary School at Suncity Township Gurgaon that they don't pay attention to their studies. Just to motivate them, I took three of my four students (whom we taught from a tender age and now in class IX & X in Tagore Public School Gurgaon) to our school and speak to the present students of class III, IV & V. This was to inspire the junior students with their own life examples as to how they struggled hard and come up. Also present was Reeta Nishad (in yellow dress) who is the caretaker nurse for my wife Mrs Suchismita Roy (Ex-Founder Principal of DAV Kapil Dev Public School at Ranchi) and unfortunately an Alzheimer's patient now. Reeta also comes from a very poor family in U.P. and struggled hard to study against all odds and complete her graduation and then her nursing course. She is earning a handsome salary now and employed in EMOHA Elder Care (my son Saumyajit Roy is the Co-...

Teacher's Day Celebration

Image
Today is ‘Happy Teacher’s Day’. On this day I would like to show my deep respect to all my teachers and seniors without whose help I could not have achieved whatever I could in this life.  Of course, my first teachers were my Parents from whom I learnt a lot of things and values of life. I would like to thank my teachers in St. Lawrence High School in Kolkata, Jadavpur University where I did my Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering and in I.I.T. Kharagpur where I did my M.Tech. In Production Science & Technology.  Finally, I would like to show my respect to all my seniors in my professional life in TELCO, Usha Martin, G.T.B. Colombo Corporation, McNally Bharat Engineering Co. Ltd., JCBL Ltd. etc.  Thinking of my teachers, I specially remember Bhattacharya Sir who taught us Mathematics. He used to give us typical maths questions which made us fully prepared for tricky maths questions during the test of I.I.T. entrance examination. I also remember Mitra Sir for Phys...
